burning oil stink

I read a thread a couple of days ago about people smelling oil burning off in there ventilation system... ever since I switched from AMSOil to Mobil 1 (both 5w30) I've been smelling this also. Can someone tell me why this is? It only seems to be when I push it hard.. I replaced a leaky valve cover gasket, as well as the pcv valve, and the hosing for it. I see no noticeable oil leaks.

I was told DRAG recommends running 20w50... whadda we think about that?

It might be possible that u are burning oil(actually smells like more to me burning hair) cause ur oil is much thinner now so when hard accel is can burn easier.
thas what happen to me when i swicht from 10-30w to 5-30, i smell some burning too. No big deal as long as u have enough oil in ur engine.
i always check the oil level and it seems it never go down .

Just a thought...I always smell burning oil following an oil change on any of the Honda's I've owned (Accord/GSR/ITR. This has been due to the design of the oil filter placed over the exhaust. The smell goes away after a day or two. BTW, I use M1 oil.

Well I've had this in one form or another for several weeks now.. I can see it being 5w30, but I don't get with Mobil1 stinks and AMSOil doesn't..

someone also told me the pcv breather will make it so you smell more also? I guess this makes sense..

How about the 20w50 issue?

I'm getting the same thing, ever since I've installed my turbo, I've been getting a very strong burning smell as well when I have the vents on, I check my oil regularly and the level seems fine? I'm using Mobil 1 5W30 as well. I've only had the turbo on for about 3000 or so kms now, so I'm due for an oil change very soon. I've got a 4L jug of 10W30 waiting. Suggestions anyone?

My general feeling is.. don't worry about it. As long as the level isn't disappearing and you aren't spurting out in other places then it's normal..
